Arseni Maximov, PhD
Psychoanalyst and registered Psychologist in Barcelona

I'm a psychoanalyst and registered psychologist in Barcelona with more than 10 years' experience in private practice (COPC registration number 27547). Trained in the UK, the US, Spain and Russia, I offer therapy and supervision in English as well as in Spanish, Catalan and Russian. I work with both adults and children with a wide variety of problems.

When asked what exact problems I work with, I usually say I don't work with problems. I work with people, and every person has their own unique problem that requires a tailor-made solution rather than a standard and universal one.

I help my patients understand and transform their suffering analysing it in the greater context of their life story, personality and interpersonal relations. I also encourage them to see how they were shaped as subjects by the cultural and family discourses, by their identifications as well as by various experiences they've had and the interpretations they made of those.

When that is analysed and deconstructed, one can become less conditioned by it and envisage alternative ways of functioning that would be more satisfying. Sometimes it involves promoting the patient's unique life project rather than adapting to what is considered normal and expected from us in our society.
